GENERAL INFORMATION

Transportation and Parking
All major airlines have flights into Denver International Airport (DIA). Super Shuttle provides service to Boulder departing hourly from Level 5. Reservations are required for return trip only (303-444-0808). If driving see http://www.colorado.edu/visit/directions.html for detailed directions to campus. Parking is free at the Millennium Harvest House and Boulder Outlook Hotel. Metered parking (2 hour maximum) on campus is very limited. Lot 436 at the corner of Colorado and Regent is a pay lot, cash only. Shuttles are not provided from hotels to the university for the workshop sessions. Plan on a 10 - 15 minute walk to and from either hotel.

Weather
Boulder's weather in January is known for its unpredictability and can range from snow and cold temperatures to mild, balmy weather with temperatures near 60°F (15°C). Normally, however, the weather is sunny and rather cool 40°F (5°C) during the month, with little snow. Bring appropriate clothing that is good for layering.

Altitude
Boulder is located 5,430 feet above sea level. Boulder's high altitude may create feelings of altitude sickness due to the decreased amount of oxygen in the air. By taking a few simple precautions, the effect of high altitude can be minimized or totally avoided:

  • Do not overexert the first day or two at altitude.
  • Avoid heavy meals and heavy alcohol consumption. Alcohol affects
your body three times faster at altitude than at sea level.
  • Drink plenty of water.
