Physics

In general, physicists use deep underground labs to protect sensitive experiments from cosmic-ray background noise, and DUSEL, with major campuses 4,850 feet and 7,400 feet underground, would be the world's largest, deepest laboratory. DUSEL's flagship experiments will focus on five areas of subatomic physics:

  • Detection of dark matter particles.
  • Detection of neutrinoless double-beta decay
  • Nuclear astrophysics
  • Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiments
  • Proton Decay
